Furthermore, Angelo accepted the challenge of Laura Moro, the director of Curci, of writing a biography of Mario, the first available in Italy. They believed the time had come. Angelo, who was a very good writer, shared with the public not only the memories he had of the Florentine composer but also his opinions on the value of this music. This initiative has made a strong contribution to spreading the figure of Castelnuovo-Tedesco Furthermore, the book inspired President Mattarella to award my grandfather with the medal of the Presidency of the Republic and of the Chamber of Deputies: the first official State tribute since my grandfather was forced to emigrate to the United States in 1939.

In January 2023 I returned to Vercelli for the first time since Angelo's death. Of course I felt sad but then I remembered the joy I felt every time I came to visit him and great chats between us.

Thanks, Angelo, for teaching and inspiring us and for working so hard for ensure that the music and story of Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco did not remain in the shade. Our family will be eternally grateful to you.

I am honored to recall through this writing the friendship between Angelo Gilardino and my grandfather, Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco and the bond between him and our family.

I would also like to underline Angelo's dedication in making available, in due and authentic form, the music and the story of his mentor.

His tireless work is been essential to the rediscovery of Castelnuovo-Tedesco's works in recent years.

When he was still a young guitarist, Angelo became an epistolary friend of Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco, despite the significant age difference between them. My grandfather encouraged Angelo to become a composer, a challenge that Angelo eventually accepted a few years after my grandfather's death.

Further on, Angelo also met my parents and in the last few years, I too had the privilege to count on him as a friend and mentor.

For seven years I have been taking care of my grandfather's musical heritage in the name of family. Soon after I started doing this job I realized how it was difficult to find and listen to his music, with the exception of some very famous spieces because so many scores were out of print or never published.

Since I am neither a musician nor a musicologist, I turned to Angelo to have some advice: how best to continue to make the whole catalogue available?

Not only he put me in touch with Edizioni Curci, the publisher with whom we would establish a prolific collaboration, but Angelo also personally took care of the editions, and for each volume he wrote a splendid introduction.

It is a job that he continued to do so enthusiastically until shortly before his passing. Thanks to his wonderful work and to Curci's trust, today dozens of scores are available to musicians worldwide.
